Senior Software Engineer / Team Lead

Engagement: US-based health technology client
About Pluto Labs
Pluto Labs is a New Yorkâbased AI, data engineering, and automation firm. We embed with healthcare,
government, and regulated-industry clients as their technical partner â building the AI agents, data
platforms, and compliance-grade infrastructure their products depend on. We work to the standards those industries demand: SOC 2 Type II, HITRUST, and NIST 800-53 aligned. Our engineering team is globally distributed. We hire people who can own outcomes, not just tickets.
About the Role
Weâre hiring a Senior Software Engineer / Team Lead to be the point person on a dedicated engagement with a US-based health technology client. This is a hybrid role by design: youâll own the client relationship, lead a small engineering team, and still write production code every week.
Youâll be the bridge between the clientâs product team and your engineers â translating requirements into plans, keeping delivery on schedule, and setting the technical bar through your own work. If you want to lead without stepping away from the codebase, this is the role.
Healthcare software carries real weight. The systems you build handle sensitive data and support
workflows people depend on, so we look for engineers who take that seriously.
What Youâll Do
Client ownership
⢠Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the client â requirements gathering, progress
updates, scope discussions, and feedback loops
⢠Run regular working sessions with the clientâs product team and translate their goals into actionable
engineering plans
⢠Flag risks, dependencies, and trade-offs early and clearly
Team leadership
⢠Lead and mentor a team of engineers â run code reviews, unblock people, and grow their skills
⢠Plan sprints, manage timelines, and own delivery commitments
⢠Build a team culture where quality and accountability are the default
Hands-on engineering
⢠Design, build, and maintain application features using JavaScript, Node.js, React.js, Redux, Saga,
Nest.js/Express.js, and MongoDB

⢠Implement and manage AWS services including S3, Lambda, ECS, and SQS
⢠Handle server setup on ECS and Docker containerization
⢠Continuously improve development processes, tooling, and code quality standards
What Weâre Looking For
Required
⢠Bachelorâs degree in Computer Science & Engineering or a related field (or equivalent practical
experience)
⢠5+ years of professional software development experience
⢠1+ year of engineering leadership experience â leading a team, owning delivery, or acting as tech
lead
⢠Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript, Node.js, React.js, Redux, Saga, Express.js/Nest.js, and
MongoDB
⢠Extensive experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, ECS, SQS) and proficiency with Docker and container
management
⢠Excellent English communication skills â youâll be client-facing daily, in writing and on calls
⢠Proven ability to plan projects, manage timelines, and coordinate across functions
⢠Proactive, ownership-driven mindset and strong problem-solving instincts
Nice to have
⢠Prior experience working directly with US-based clients or distributed teams
⢠Experience in healthcare, health tech, or another regulated industry (HIPAA, PHI handling)
⢠Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
⢠Experience with testing strategy and observability tooling
What We Offer
⢠Competitive salary and benefits package
⢠Fully remote work, Monday to Friday, with overlap hours aligned to the US client team
⢠Direct exposure to a US health tech product and its stakeholders
⢠Meaningful ownership and a clear path to broader technical leadership
⢠A collaborative, high-standards engineering culture
