SAP Joule AI Agent Engineer
FP&A Conversational Agent •SAP BTP / Joule Studio • Datasphere & BPC
Location: Remote with expense paid travel as needed
Employment Type: Contractor or Contract to Hire
Job Description:
We are looking for a highly skilled SAP Joule AI Agent Developer to design, build, and deliver a production-grade conversational FP&A agent on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). This is a full-stack implementation role — you will own the end-to-end technical build from BTP entitlement configuration through Joule Skill and Agent assembly, and simultaneously serve as the business-facing lead who runs requirements workshops with Finance stakeholders, translates FP&A processes into agent behaviors, and drives adoption.
The right candidate combines deep hands-on SAP BTP and Joule Studio expertise with a genuine talent for working with business users — facilitating structured discovery sessions, documenting use cases, and ensuring the agent we build actually reflects the way Finance teams think and operate.
Job Requirements:
Business Requirements & Stakeholder Engagement
• Lead structured requirements workshops with FP&A, Controlling, and Finance leadership to identify high-value conversational use cases (variance analysis, period-close reporting, forecast commentary, KPI drill-down, etc.)
• Translate business language and financial workflows into structured agent intent taxonomies, skill trigger definitions, and system instruction prompts
• Document use cases, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios in collaboration with business users
• Act as the primary liaison between Finance stakeholders and the technical BTP/SAP team throughout discovery, build, and UAT
• Facilitate UAT sessions and gather iterative feedback to refine agent behaviors and response quality
Technical Architecture & BTP Configuration
• Validate and configure BTP subaccount entitlements: SAP Build Process Automation (Joule Studio), SAP AI Core (Gen AI Hub), SAP Build Work Zone, and Cloud Identity Services
• Set up SAP Cloud Connector for on-premises BPC (Standard 10.x on NetWeaver) or configure BTP destinations for BPC Embedded (S/4HANA)
• Provision and manage OAuth 2.0 clients, scoped roles, and authentication flows for Datasphere and BPC API access
Data Exposure & API Development
• Enable and configure SAP Datasphere Analytic Models and Views for OData consumption (actuals from S/4HANA, plan data from BPC via Data Integration)
• Configure 'Expose for Consumption' on Datasphere views and manage space-level access roles (Data Warehouse Consumption, Space Files privileges)
• Build and register Action Projects in SAP Build Lobby for both Datasphere and BPC endpoints; expose atomic actions including GetActualsByPeriod, GetBudgetByVersion, GetVarianceAnalysis, GetForecastTrend, and GetCashFlowSummary
• Design the Datasphere semantic layer as the unified source for actuals + plan data, replicating BPC plan versions via replication flows to reduce dual-connection complexity
Joule Skill & Agent Development
• Build Joule Skills in Joule Studio for each FP&A task: configure trigger intents, disable default Joule responses, define typed skill inputs (costCenter, fiscalPeriod, version) and outputs, wire Call Action steps, and build response cards
• Assemble the FP&A Joule Agent: author the agent description, add skills under Tools, and write agent system instructions that govern reasoning behavior (e.g., always compare actuals vs. latest forecast before commenting on variance; request clarification when period or entity is ambiguous)
• Configure predictive analytics capabilities via SAP-RPT-1 on Datasphere structured datasets for forward-looking FP&A queries
• Activate Private Environments in Control Tower, wire destinations, and manage the deploy-test-iterate cycle
Testing, Documentation & Enablement
• Design and execute structured test suites against prompts such as variance queries by cost center, BPC budget pulls, and rolling trend requests
• Document agent architecture, skill configurations, and system instructions for ongoing maintenance
• Train Finance power users on effective conversational prompting patterns and agent capabilities
• Monitor agent quality post-go-live and manage tuning iterations based on Finance feedback
Required Skills:
SAP Technical Expertise
• 5+ years of hands-on SAP experience with demonstrated depth in at least two of: SAP BTP, SAP Datasphere, SAP BPC (Standard or Embedded), or S/4HANA Finance
• Direct experience configuring SAP BTP services: Build Process Automation, AI Core, Build Work Zone, Cloud Connector, and BTP Destinations
• Proficiency with OData API design and consumption; experience exposing SAP Datasphere views and Analytic Models for external consumption
• Familiarity with SAP BPC data architecture: plan versions, entity hierarchies, EPM OData services, and RFC/BAPI patterns for on-prem BPC
• Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, SAML/IDP configuration, and BTP Identity Services
Joule / Generative AI Experience
• Hands-on experience with SAP Joule Studio (GA 2026): building Skills, assembling Agents, authoring system instructions, and configuring trigger intents
• Understanding of SAP Generative AI Hub model governance and SAP AI Core service configurations
• Experience with prompt engineering for structured business use cases; ability to design agent system instructions that constrain and guide LLM reasoning toward reliable FP&A outputs
• Familiarity with SAP-RPT-1 predictive analytics integration in Datasphere is a plus
Business Facilitation & Requirements Skills
• Demonstrated ability to run structured requirements workshops with non-technical Finance stakeholders — facilitating discovery, capturing use cases, and building consensus
• Strong business process acumen in FP&A: variance analysis, period-close cycles, budget vs. actuals reporting, forecast commentary, KPI frameworks
• Experience translating Finance workflows and business language into technical specifications (intent taxonomies, skill input/output schemas, test scenarios)
• Comfortable presenting to and partnering with Finance leadership (CFO, VP Finance, Controllers) as the technical SME
• Ability to facilitate UAT with business users: design test scripts, run sessions, capture and prioritize feedback, drive iteration

This role sits at the intersection of technology and finance, and the person who thrives here is equally comfortable in a technical deep-dive with a BTP architect and a process discovery workshop with a Controller. We need someone who:
• Asks great business questions before jumping to solutions
• Can simplify complex SAP architecture for a CFO audience without losing precision
• Is energized by ambiguity — this is a greenfield implementation, not a maintenance role
