Part-Time Data Analyst
Cedar Pine Consulting is seeking a part-time Data Analyst to support one of our nonprofit clients with reporting, data analysis, and business intelligence needs across multiple programs and departments.
The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with sensitive client and program data. This person will help transform raw data into clear insights that support program operations, grant reporting, leadership decision-making, and organizational strategy.
This is a US Based role with a preference towards candidates in the Greater Los Angeles area.
Hours are currently between 10-25 hours a month with the ability to grow to 40-60+ hours a month based on client's needs and performance.
Responsibilities
• Work with Cedar Pine Consulting and the client team to understand program workflows, reporting needs, and day-to-day operational questions that can be better answered with data.
• Compile, clean, validate, and analyze data from multiple sources, including databases, spreadsheets, reporting systems, and JSON-based data structures.
• Build and maintain recurring reports for program teams, leadership, funders, and executive stakeholders.
• Conduct ad hoc analysis to answer specific business, program, and operational questions.
• Develop clear dashboards, charts, and visualizations that make complex data easy to understand.
• Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, and prepare data for analysis.
• Work with semi-structured data, including JSON fields, nested data, form responses, and other flexible data structures.
• Support data quality efforts by identifying inconsistencies, missing data, duplicate records, and reporting gaps.
• Document report logic, assumptions, data definitions, and processes to support long-term maintainability.
• Handle sensitive nonprofit client data with discretion, care, and professionalism.
Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, or a related role.
• Strong proficiency in SQL.
• Experience building dashboards and reports in Power BI.
• Comfortable working with relational databases, large datasets, and semi-structured data.
• Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
• Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to validate data for accuracy.
• Experience working independently in a part-time or consulting environment.
• Strong written documentation skills.
Nice to Have
• Experience with Python or JavaScript for scripting, automation, or data processing.
• Experience with scheduled reporting, cron jobs, ETL workflows, or data reporting infrastructure.
• Experience normalizing data from messy, inconsistent, or semi-structured sources.
• Experience working with complex JSON data, nested objects, dynamic form data, or JSONB fields in a relational database.
• Experience working with nonprofit organizations, social services, education, healthcare, or grant-funded programs.
• Familiarity with data privacy, sensitive client records, or compliance-conscious reporting environments.
• Experience with data modeling, data warehouses, or analytics-ready database design.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who can move between technical work and practical business questions. They should be able to understand what program staff and executives are trying to measure, identify the data needed to answer those questions, and present findings in a clear and useful way.
